About Us

Ridge View Brethren in Christ Church is a community church which started in 1965 and has served members of the Roanoke community since that time. We invite you to come and share with us. Our church is a friendly group of people who enjoy helping each other and worshiping together. We believe in the enduring truth of God's Word, The Bible. We praise God for sending his son, Jesus, who was born of a virgin, ministered on Earth for 33 years, died on a cross for the forgiveness of sins, was raised from the dead on the third day, and now is preparing a place in Heaven (salvation) for all who believe in Him.

Brethren in Christ Around the World

Brethren in Christ are a relatively small denomination with a very large mission program. After one hundred years of mission activity, there are more Brethren in Christ outside of North America than within. More than 17 countries have significant Brethren in Christ Churches. Being a small denomination with a big purpose, we have encouraged mission work to indigenize rapidly which has lead to strong national leadership development and strong churches.

Ridge View Brethren in Christ Church in Roanoke, VA actively supports our world mission activity. We have adopted Carl and Debbie Ginder as our missionary couple for prayer and financial support. Carl and Debbie are assigned to Zimbabwe, in Africa where they help teach and train the national BIC church leaders.

History of the Brethren in Christ

The Brethren in Christ are a relatively small evangelical denomination whose origin is in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania about 1790. We embrace the holiness traditions in a quiet way and are counted among the peace churches. We maintain close ties with the Mennonites and support their disaster relief organization. Messiah College, a nationally recognized private college, was founded by the denomination in response to the need for solid value-oriented education.

Strong mission activity has spread the denomination to many countries across the world during the last 100 years. There are now more Brethren in Christ churches and members outside the US than within. A major portion of the denominational giving goes to support this mission commitment. All ages are encouraged to participate in mission work and trips.

Purpose statement: "The purpose of the Brethren in Christ Church is to foster a fellowship of believers whose objective is to worship and obey the triune God, and to proclaim His gospel to all people." (Historic and still active)

Mission Statement: "Our mission is to build a community of believers who worship and obey God and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with all people."

The Brethren in Christ hold the following core values:

  • Experiencing God's Love and Grace - We value the free gift of salvation in Christ Jesus and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
